Provincialised Tutors Stage Protest In Guwahati

Seeking urgent redressal of their long-standing grievances, members of the All Assam Provincialized Middle English and Lower Primary (Tutor) Association held a large protest at Silsako in Guwahati on Friday. Hundreds of aggrieved tutors gathered, waving flags, carrying placards, and chanting slogans like “No justice, no rest” to draw attention to their unresolved issues. These tutors were provincialised under a government initiative on February 5, 2021, but remain in a state of uncertainty.

The protestors demanded that tutors who have not yet completed their professional training be given the necessary support and opportunities to pursue the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). They emphasized that these demands are not only legitimate but vital for securing dignity, job stability, and professional recognition for thousands across Assam.

One teacher recalled receiving an appointment letter at Sarusajai Stadium in 2021, where the then-Education Minister and current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had assured permanent posts. “It’s been four years and nothing has changed,” they said. Protesters also decried the pay disparity—earning just ₹10,000–₹12,000 compared to colleagues making ₹70,000–₹80,000—and vowed to continue protesting until a concrete solution is offered.
