Pre-poll violence erupts in Samaguri: BJP, Congress workers clash, one injured

Political tensions flared in Assam’s Samaguri on October 16 as a clash between BJP and Congress workers left one person seriously injured. Ashraful Alam, the social media convener for BJP’s Samaguri Mandal, was attacked in an alleged assault by Congress supporters.

The violence reportedly erupted over social media posts in which Alam criticized Tanzil Hussain, the son of senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain. Supporters of Rakibul allegedly retaliated, leading to an attack on Alam with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.

Alam was immediately rushed to a hospital in Nagaon for treatment. As the area gears up for re-polling, the incident has intensified the already charged political atmosphere. Leaders from both the BJP and Congress have exchanged accusations, each blaming the other for inciting violence amid the election process. Authorities are currently investigating the matter as tensions continue to escalate.
