In a victory against poaching, the collaborative efforts of the Morigaon Police force and wildlife sanctuary authorities led to the capture of Abdul Khalek, a notorious poacher, during a meticulously planned nighttime operation. Khalek, known for his illicit activities, was tracked to the village of Gorumoradoloni in Pobitora, where he operated within the dense forest area. Through diligent surveillance and swift action based on crucial metadata, law enforcement officers swiftly descended upon the pinpointed location and successfully detained Khalek, halting his nefarious activities.
The arrest not only resulted in the capture of Khalek but also led to the seizure of a cache of firearms, including a .303 rifle loaded with 12 live rounds and a 7.65 pistol equipped with 7 bullets, underscoring the severity of Khalek’s intentions and the potential danger he posed to the wildlife sanctuary’s inhabitants. Residing in the village of Ambari under the jurisdiction of Morajhar Police Station in the Hojai district, Khalek now faces consequences for his poaching activities, which not only endangered wildlife but also disrupted the region’s delicate ecological balance.
While Khalek’s arrest marks a notable achievement, it also highlights the ongoing threat posed by poaching networks, as several accomplices managed to evade law enforcement during the operation. Undeterred by these challenges, the forest department and police have launched extensive search operations to locate and apprehend the fleeing poachers, reaffirming their commitment to preserving justice and protecting the area’s rich biodiversity for future generations.
