Nine individuals were detained at New Bongaigaon Railway Station in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on suspicion of being illegal Bangladeshi nationals, police officials said.
The operation was carried out by the Bongaigaon Border Police with assistance from the Government Railway Police (GRP).
According to preliminary information, the group arrived at the railway station at around 5 pm on Tuesday and was allegedly planning to travel to Chennai.
The detained individuals have been taken into custody and are being questioned by police to verify their identities, nationality and other details.
Police officials said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their travel and determine whether they had entered the country illegally.
