NHPC Ltd has announced May 8 as the commercial operation date of Unit 4 (250 MW) of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (2000 MW) located across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The unit will officially commence operations at 00:00 hours on May 8, 2026, marking another major milestone in India’s renewable energy expansion.
With the latest commissioning, four generating units — each of 250 MW — will become operational, bringing the project’s commissioned capacity to 1,000 MW. The remaining four units are expected to be commissioned in due course.
In an exchange filing, the company said, “it…declares commercial operation (CoD) of Unit 4 of Subansiri Lower HE Project from 00:00 hours on 08.05.2026”.
NHPC is constructing the hydroelectric project (having eight units of 250 MW each) at about Rs 27,000 crore near North Lakhimpur on the border of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
