Multilingual Poetry Takes Centre Stage at Udalguri Literary Gathering

The fourth Poets’ Meet organised by the Udalguri District Xahitya Xabha was held at Khoirabari Town High School, bringing together veteran and emerging poets from across the district in a vibrant celebration of literature and culture. Organised by the Poets’ Meet Sub-Committee in collaboration with the Khoirabari Xahitya Xabha, the event highlighted the region’s rich multilingual literary heritage.

The poetry session was conducted by young poet and litterateur Jayanta Rajbanshi and inaugurated by Suvarna Devi, Assistant Professor at Khoirabari College. A total of 31 poets recited their original works, with poems presented in Assamese, Bodo and Rabha languages, reflecting the linguistic and cultural diversity of the district.

A key highlight of the programme was the presentation of the Kavya Sadhana Award 2026 to noted poet and litterateur Jyotiprasad Kalita of Phulkuchi-Paneri. The award, instituted in memory of renowned educationist, social worker and former Tangla College professor Late Dr Hemen Kumar Barua, recognises outstanding contributions to literature.

The event also featured a felicitation ceremony honouring meritorious students. In addition, retired teacher Dugdha Kumar formally released the 62nd book authored by litterateur Punuram Kalita. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting literary excellence and preserving the multilingual cultural traditions of Udalguri district.
