Medanta-Nagaland health booklet signals policy shift toward preventive care

The Medicity, Gurgaon, in partnership with the Government of Nagaland and the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), has launched “A Guide to Better Health,” a preventive healthcare booklet aimed at lawmakers, officials, and the public. The move reflects a broader policy approach in India that prioritizes preventive healthcare as a means of reducing long-term economic and social costs.

The initiative, conceptualized by Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and supported by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, was unveiled by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Over 200 legislators and senior officials received copies, while digital dissemination is expected to improve accessibility. Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chair of IDAN, emphasized the state’s commitment to positioning health as a strategic policy priority. Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta, highlighted prevention as the most cost-effective form of healthcare.

The booklet represents an important intersection between public health and economic resilience. As the city’s commercial hubs expand, preventive health awareness can safeguard workforce productivity, lower medical expenditure, and support stable economic growth. The launch builds on Medanta’s MoU with the state under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme and its recent medical camp in Kohima, which benefitted over 400 people.
