The device was reportedly noticed by a female student, who alerted others after identifying a suspicious object in the restroom.
Following the incident, the institute lodged an FIR, and an investigation has been initiated by Guwahati Police. Authorities are examining how the device was installed and whether any footage was recorded.

In an official statement, the TISS Guwahati administration described the incident as a “serious privacy violation” that is “entirely unacceptable and condemnable.” The institute confirmed that it is fully cooperating with the police investigation and has begun an internal review of campus security protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The administration also expressed solidarity with affected students, stating that support services have been made available. It appealed to media and stakeholders to respect students’ privacy while reporting on the matter.
