Heavy rain causes waterlogging in Dibrugarh

Several parts of Dibrugarh city in Assam faced severe waterlogging on June 27 after incessant heavy rainfall, adding to the growing concerns over Assam’s monsoon flood situation.The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had already forecasted heavy rains across Assam on June 23, issuing alerts that suggested a potential escalation in the ongoing monsoon floods. The Meteorological Centre particularly emphasized the risk in north Assam, advising residents and authorities to brace for possible flooding and adverse weather conditions.

The IMD extended heavy rain alerts to 13 districts, heightening fears of increased flood severity. Sonitpur, Biswanath Chariali, Lakhimpur, and Dhemaji were placed under a yellow alert, indicating a high likelihood of substantial rainfall in these regions. Additionally, rain alerts were issued for Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, and Cachar districts, signaling significant rainfall activity.
