Guardians demand action after beef allegations

Tensions escalated outside Carmel School in Andherijuli, Kamrup district, after two students from Manipur allegedly served beef to their Hindu classmates during lunch. The incident, which reportedly took place on September 19, sparked protests eight days later, drawing hundreds of demonstrators outside the school.

Local residents and guardians, angered by the school administration’s perceived inaction, blocked the school gate, disrupting ongoing half-yearly exams. The protestors demanded strict action against the accused students, citing religious sensitivities in the predominantly Hindu locality.

A complaint signed by 69 guardians was submitted to the Palashbari Circle Officer, detailing the sequence of events. Tensions were further aggravated by the suspension of a Hindu teacher, who had reported the incident to the school principal.

Authorities, including a police team and magistrate, intervened, assuring protestors of a thorough investigation. As of now, no formal charges have been filed.
