Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare and NSS Programme Coordinator of Gauhati University, has brought laurels to the university by receiving the ‘My Bharat NSS Programme Coordinator Best Performer Award’ at a national-level Chintan Shivir held at IIM Shillong.
The prestigious award was presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs from the My Bharat NSS Programme in the presence of Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse, along with other senior officials.
Dr. Kakati received this honour for his outstanding contribution to social service, youth development, and social welfare programmes in Assam. Under his leadership, the NSS unit of Gauhati University, which supervises more than 156 NSS units, has achieved remarkable success in areas such as environmental conservation, disaster preparedness, blood donation, health awareness, anti-drug campaigns, tree plantation drives, and rural development.
Notably, Gauhati University and Dr. Kakati were the first from the Northeast to receive the National Service Scheme Award for 2019–20, presented by the President. The award was conferred by then President of India Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 24, 2021.
In addition, Dr. Kakati received the Assam State National Service Scheme Award for 2021–22. This honour was presented by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in the presence of then Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria.
Dr. Kakati has been playing a crucial role in inspiring the youth toward nation-building, social responsibility, and volunteerism. His remarkable achievement has brought pride not only to Gauhati University but also to the entire NSS community of Assam. On Dr. Kakati’s success, Vice-Chancellor Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta and Registrar Utpal Sarma of the university have extended their best wishes and congratulations.
