Flood toll reaches four in Assam as over 37,000 people affected

The flood situation in Assam deteriorated further on Wednesday, with the death toll rising to four and more than 37,000 people affected as floodwaters spread across several parts of the state, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).The latest flood-related death was reported from the Chariduar Revenue Circle in Sonitpur district. Officials said the victim had gone missing on the night of July 13 after floodwaters inundated the area. The body was recovered the following day, taking the total number of flood-related deaths in the state this season to four.

ASDMA said the number of people affected by the floods has increased sharply over the past 24 hours as rising water levels submerged fresh areas. The latest assessment showed that more than 37,000 people are now facing the impact of the floods, with several villages and low-lying localities remaining under water. Floodwaters continued to affect normal life in the worst-hit areas, disrupting road connectivity and creating difficulties for residents. Many families have been forced to move to safer places as water entered residential areas, while agricultural land has also been affected in several locations.

The disaster management authority said district administrations are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. Rescue teams have been deployed where required, while relief materials are being distributed to affected families.
