Families In Palashbari Struggle Without Clean Drinking Water

Dakhala Colony, located under the Palasbari Legislative Assembly Constituency in Kamrup district, houses around 400 families across four areas—Naradpara, Kukuriya, Kalitapara, and Bholapara. Despite being near semi-urban development, the colony lacks essential amenities, especially clean drinking water. Residents say they’ve been left out of key government welfare schemes.

Due to the rocky terrain of Dakhala Hill, bringing in water tankers or digging borewells is nearly impossible, and most families can’t afford private wells. The few public wells available provide unsafe water. Some residents resort to collecting water from the Brahmaputra for daily use, while drinking water must be purchased—unaffordable for many.

A natural spring that once served the village has dried up due to nearby construction. A Jal Jeevan Mission water facility was built atop Dakhala Hill, but no pipelines have been laid to supply water to homes. Despite repeated pleas to the local BJP MLA, villagers continue to rely on unsafe wells and river water, exposing gaps between government promises and actual delivery.
