The All Rabha Women’s Council’s 33rd foundation day celebration at the Rani Primary School playground near Guwahati highlighted the organisation’s longstanding efforts to advance the rights, self-governance and empowerment of Rabha women. Organised by the Kamrup District Rabha Women’s Council in association with regional Rabha organisations and local residents, the day-long programme brought together community representatives and leaders to reflect on the organisation’s journey since its formation in 1993. Former MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita inaugurated the main entrance gate, while general secretary Kavita Rabha paid tribute to martyrs and president Lalita Rabha hoisted the organisation’s main flag. Speakers at the open meeting emphasised the council’s role in movements concerning the rights and aspirations of the Rabha community. The release of the souvenir Tholengpar by Dr Dipika Das, Head of the Economics Department at Chhaygaon College, added an important focus on education and economic empowerment. Her emphasis on improving literacy and strengthening the economic position of Rabha women reflects the broader need to ensure that community development is supported by opportunities for women and girls. The foundation day therefore served not only as a commemoration of the council’s history but also as a platform to renew its commitment to education, dignity, rights and inclusive development. Empowering Rabha women through education and economic opportunity can strengthen both the community and its future generations.
