CM Sangma starts with the construction of a four-star hotel at Polo Ground

The building of a four-star hotel at Polo Ground is the first step in the Meghalaya government’s ambitious urban regeneration initiative to significantly revitalize Shillong. This program was unveiled by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who emphasized the state government’s dedication to improving the city’s appearance and infrastructure. The Chief Minister on Friday unveiled Shillong’s renovated and refurbished IGP Point as part of this larger agenda. Launched in March 2024, the Re-Imagining Streets Initiative includes the point’s reconstruction.

A flower bed constructed with recycled soil from Marten has also been installed, highlighting the state’s emphasis on sustainable urban development. During the inauguration, Sangma said, “This project is a component of the government’s strategy to improve the city’s aesthetic appeal while preserving its cultural character.” The Chief Minister also announced that the construction of the four-star hotels in Polo Ground has been completed and will shortly begin. Additionally, Sangma disclosed that the Integrated Command Center is nearing completion and would soon be opened.

In order to assess continuing beautification activities, the Chief Minister walked towards the Main Secretariat and examined the painted walkways at IGP Junction with the help of Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and other officials. The goal of the state government’s multifaceted strategy is to make Shillong a contemporary, tourist-friendly city while maintaining its distinct character. This includes improving public areas and building hospitality infrastructure, like as the four-star hotel at Polo Ground.
