Cairn Oil & Gas, a Vedanta Group company and India’s foremost private oil and gas exploration firm, has announced a robust plan to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030. This bold move underscores Cairn’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) leadership within the energy sector.
Over the past four years, Cairn has reduced potential gas flaring by 60%, underscoring its dedication to carbon emission reduction. The company is also leveraging nature-based solutions, including extensive tree and mangrove plantations. To date, 2,835 acres of greenbelt, including 458 acres of mangroves, have been developed. Additionally, Cairn aims to plant 2 million trees by 2030, significantly enhancing its carbon sinks.Aligned with the World Environment Day theme of land restoration, Cairn’s initiatives span across Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat. Notably, in Barmer, Rajasthan, Cairn has revived 15,000 Khejari plants in the Thar Ecosystem, and Gujarat’s coastal areas now feature 372 acres of mangrove forest.
On the renewable energy front, Cairn plans to source up to 70 MW by 2030, with a 25 MW renewable Power Delivery Agreement set to commence in FY25.
