BSF Raises 1st Drone Squadron To Guard India-Pakistan Border

The Border Security Force (BSF) is preparing to launch its first-ever drone squadron to boost surveillance and defence capabilities along the India-Pakistan border. This initiative follows increasing threats from cross-border UAVs, particularly in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

Sources in the security establishment revealed that the squadron will be deployed at selected Border Outposts (BoPs) and will comprise various unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed for surveillance, reconnaissance, and attack purposes. It will also include specially trained personnel to operate and manage the drone systems.

Coordinated through a central control room at BSF’s western command in Chandigarh, this move strengthens BSF’s counter-drone efforts. The decision comes after a comprehensive review post-Operation Sindoor, an Indian military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

During the operation, Pakistan retaliated with thousands of drones targeting Indian bases and civilian areas. In response, the BSF will now deploy teams of 2-3 personnel in vulnerable BoPs along the 2,000-km border, spanning Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, with enhanced drone technology and fortified defences.
