Batting Coach Sitanshu Kotak Says Injury Forced Kishan to Bat at No. 5 in First T20

Indian cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan is likely to miss the second T20 match against New Zealand due to injury. The match will be held on Saturday at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.

According to Indian team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, the main reason Ishan batted at number 5 instead of his usual number 3 position in the first T20 match was this injury. The coach said the player has not fully recovered and chances of him playing in tomorrow’s match are very slim. He will be kept out of the team until the medical team advises otherwise.

If Ishan Kishan is unable to play, young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is fully expected to take his place. 15-year-old Vaibhav has already scored 246 runs at an aggressive strike rate of 186.36 in his first 8 T20 matches.

It is worth mentioning that in the first T20 match, India successfully chased down a huge target of 226 runs against New Zealand with 4 wickets in hand. For the team, Sanju Samson scored 65 runs off 33 balls, Shreyas Iyer scored 42 runs and Amanpreet scored an unbeaten 42 runs, playing a crucial role in giving the team a 1-0 lead.
