The Assam Under-19 boys’ team scripted a proud chapter for the state after securing the bronze medal at the 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championship 2025, held in Dehradun. The podium finish marks a significant achievement for Assam table tennis and underlines the rise of young paddlers from the region on the national stage.
The four-member squad featured international paddler Priyanoj Bhattacharya, along with promising talents Divyaj Raj Roy, Swapneel Dutta, and Drishtanta Bora. Guided by coach Biman Bhagawati and managed by Prashanta Dutta, the team displayed grit and composure through the group and knockout rounds to earn a spot on the podium. Their campaign was highlighted by disciplined play and strong doubles combinations, helping them overcome several higher-ranked opponents before bowing out in the semifinals.
Coach Biman Bhagawati credited the players’ work ethic and the structured training programs back home for the result. Team manager Prashanta Dutta said the medal reflects the depth now coming through Assam’s junior ranks and thanked parents and district associations for their support.
The Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA) has officially congratulated the team for their success. The news was shared by Gitarth Das, Joint Secretary of ATTA, who said the bronze medal has brought immense pride to the state and will inspire more youngsters to take up the sport. ATTA officials added that the association will continue to back exposure trips and high-performance camps to build on this momentum.
This bronze is Assam’s first medal in the Under-19 boys’ team event at the nationals in recent years, signaling a strong pipeline for the senior circuit.
