The Assam government will continue providing masoor dal and sugar at subsidised prices to eligible National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration card holders throughout September.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries can purchase 1 kg of masoor dal for Rs 70 and 1 kg of sugar for Rs 35. The two essential commodities will therefore cost Rs 105 per beneficiary.
The subsidised items will be made available through Fair Price Shops across the state along with the regular monthly ration. The initiative is intended to make essential food products more affordable, especially for families from economically weaker sections.
The decision was approved during the State Cabinet meeting held on Sunday. The move comes at a time when sugar prices have increased in several parts of the country, with the subsidised supply expected to offer some relief to eligible households dealing with higher market prices.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also announced financial assistance under the Orunodoi scheme. Beneficiaries in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts will receive Rs 2,000 this month, while beneficiaries in the remaining districts will be provided Rs 1,200.
The financial assistance will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries on September 10.
