Assam Premier League Officially Launched, Eight Teams Set to Compete in Inaugural Season

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) officially launched the Assam Premier League (APL), marking a major milestone in the state’s cricketing journey. The launch ceremony was held at the 91 Yards Club Auditorium of the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, Guwahati.
The event was attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Guest, who unveiled the official logo, trophy and identities of the participating teams. BCCI Honorary Secretary Shri Devajit Saikia attended the programme as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was also attended by Assam Cricket Association President Taranga Gogoi, Secretary Sanatan Das, officials, franchise owners, administrators and members of Assam’s cricket fraternity.
The programme began with a welcome address by Assam Premier League Chairperson Rajdeep Oja, who spoke about the vision behind the league and its objective of creating a professional and sustainable platform for emerging cricketers in the state. He said the tournament would help strengthen domestic cricket in Assam and provide local players with greater competitive exposure.
The launch of the Assam Premier League reflects ACA’s commitment to developing a strong cricket ecosystem by providing regular opportunities for domestic players and expanding the talent pool for Assam’s senior white-ball teams and age-group squads.
The inaugural edition of the Assam Premier League will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed on JioHotstar, allowing cricket fans across the country to follow Assam’s premier T20 competition.
Eight franchises will participate in the first season of the league — Jorhat Stallions, Tezpur Titans, Dibrugarh Warriors, Barak Legends, Nagaon Rangers, Barpeta Braves, Guwahati Royals and Charaideo Sunrisers.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said cricket holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Assam and described the Assam Premier League as a landmark initiative for the state’s sporting future. He said the league would provide talented young cricketers with a dedicated platform to showcase their skills and pursue their ambitions at higher levels. He expressed confidence that the APL would grow into one of India’s leading state-level cricket leagues in the coming years.
BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has always encouraged the development of strong domestic cricket structures. He said a professionally managed state league like the Assam Premier League would provide valuable competitive exposure to emerging players and further strengthen Assam’s cricketing framework.
The unveiling of the APL logo, trophy and franchise identities marks the beginning of preparations for the inaugural season. Further announcements regarding the player auction, tournament schedule and other details are expected in the coming weeks.
