In a major shakeup aimed at boosting governance and leadership across crucial sectors, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a comprehensive reshuffle of ministerial portfolios. The reshuffle, a strategic move designed to drive efficiency, innovation, and development, is expected to strengthen the state’s administration and foster growth in key areas like healthcare, education, rural infrastructure, and social welfare.
New Ministerial Assignments
Prasanta Phukan has been entrusted with the Power, Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship, as well as the Medical Education and Research departments. He will also oversee the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana, focusing on advancing healthcare, energy sustainability, and skill development.
Kaushik Rai will take charge of the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Mines and Minerals, and Barak Valley Development departments, playing a pivotal role in ensuring food security and boosting mineral resource management in the state.
Krishnendu Paul has been assigned the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Fisheries, and Public Works (Roads) departments, with an emphasis on agricultural growth, rural infrastructure, and fisheries development.
Rupesh Gowala will oversee the Labour Welfare, Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare, and Home (Prisons, Home Guards, and Civil Defense) departments, prioritizing the welfare of marginalized communities and reinforcing law enforcement.
Senior Ministerial Realignments
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma retains key responsibilities for the Home, Personnel, and Public Works (Buildings and Highways) departments, continuing to steer the state’s development efforts and governance.
Ranjeet Kumar Dass will now manage the Panchayat and Rural Development, Judicial, and Tourism departments, focusing on rural upliftment and tourism promotion.
