AI Burnout Grips Guwahati’s Creative Minds

Artificial intelligence has become an integral part of our daily routines, helping with tasks from managing emails to suggesting meals. However, this integration has also led to a new challenge—AI burnout. A study titled AI and the Perception of Workplace Stress in Employees reveals that AI-driven monitoring creates a culture of constant surveillance, pressuring workers to be available beyond office hours and blurring the line between human and machine efforts.

Dr. Mythili Hazarika, Clinical Psychology head at GMCH, explains that constant engagement with AI tools causes cognitive overload, stress, and reduced work efficiency. A 2024 Upwork survey found that while 96% of executives expect AI to improve productivity, 77% of workers feel it actually increases their workload and reduces output. Many struggle to meet rising expectations.

Employees across sectors face pressure to match AI’s speed, impacting creativity and mental health. Students also suffer from overreliance on AI, harming originality and skills. Experts urge mindful use of AI, promoting breaks and balanced interaction to protect mental well-being in this AI-driven era.
