Administrative employees in Sivasagar staged a protest on Saturday against MLA Akhil Gogoi over allegations of misbehaviour towards Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav during a dispute over flood relief distribution. The Sivasagar unit of the All Assam District Administrative Employees’ Association held a one-hour sit-in outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, followed by a pen-down strike for the rest of the day. Yadav alleged that Gogoi confronted and intimidated him in the presence of members of the public while he was carrying out his duties according to administrative rules. The employees’ association described the alleged conduct as inappropriate and insulting to the district administration. It said government officials and staff were working continuously to assist flood-affected residents and announced that it would write to Gogoi regarding the incident. Reports suggest that Gogoi had sought to add around 2,000 beneficiaries from his constituency to the list for the government’s Rs 15,000 flood relief assistance, which currently has around 32,000 beneficiaries. Gogoi has repeatedly raised concerns over delays in distributing relief to flood-affected families in Sivasagar. However, he could not be contacted for his response to the allegations.
