Several parts of Guwahati received rain on Thursday after dark clouds gathered over the city. The change in weather came as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms, lightning and rain for isolated areas of Kamrup Metropolitan.
IMD Guwahati, in its forecast issued around 3:30 pm, said thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain could occur at isolated places over Kamrup Metropolitan during the next 30 minutes to two hours. The alert was issued in the public interest by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
Rainfall was reported from multiple locations, including Six Mile, Wireless, Beltola, Hatigaon, Rukminigaon, Downtown, Last Gate, Supermarket, Ganeshguri, Panjabari, Jorabat, Sonapur and Khanapara.
The showers offered some relief from the heat in parts of Guwahati. However, residents were advised to take precautions and remain alert as the possibility of lightning and further rainfall continued.
