Gauhati University Holds Induction Programme for Five-Year Integrated PG Students

Gauhati University on Monday organised the central induction programme for students enrolled in its five-year integrated postgraduate courses, marking the beginning of a new academic journey for the incoming students.

The programme began with the welcome address by Class Secretary Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati. Delivering the inaugural address, Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta said the university was not merely an institution of higher education but a living heritage of Assam and one of the oldest centres of learning in the Northeast.

Prof Mahanta said the university, established with the aspirations of the people of Assam and the visionary leadership and support of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi, has continued to strengthen its legacy through quality education, research, skill development and innovation.

He expressed confidence that the new students would pursue knowledge, acquire new skills and make the best use of the opportunities offered by the university. He also hoped that they would carry forward the values and heritage of Gauhati University and make meaningful contributions to Assam and the country.

The chief guest, Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, encouraged the students to understand that success in life requires not only knowledge but also discipline, self-confidence, perseverance and a sense of responsibility.

He urged the students to set clear goals and pursue them with determination, dedication and a positive outlook.

Assam Gaurav awardee, fitness trainer and adventure biker Meenakshi Das attended the programme as the distinguished guest. Sharing experiences from her own life, she encouraged the students to remain confident, persistent and determined while pursuing their goals.

The programme was conducted by Dr Dhurjjati Sharma. Gauhati University Registrar Prof Utpal Sarma, Academic Registrar Prof Rajib Sandikai, Postgraduate Students’ Union president Gunjan Deka, deans of various faculties, faculty members, parents and students were also present.
