Ashmita Chaliha has scripted a major milestone in her badminton career by reaching the women’s singles final of the Korea Masters Super 300. The Indian shuttler defeated compatriot Rakshitha Ramraj 21-13, 16-21, 21-13 in a thrilling three-game semifinal on Saturday, August 8.
The 26-year-old Chaliha made a strong start to the all-Indian semifinal, taking charge of the opening game with attacking badminton and sharp movement around the court. Ramraj responded in the second game, making the most of Chaliha’s brief dip in rhythm to level the contest and take the match into a decider.
Chaliha bounced back in the final game and once again adopted an aggressive approach. She quickly established an advantage and managed to maintain her control until the end, sealing a straight three-game victory and her place in the summit clash.
The result gives Chaliha her first-ever appearance in a BWF World Tour final, marking a significant achievement in her professional career.
Her run in Korea comes after a difficult period away from competitive badminton. Chaliha spent nearly three months on the sidelines after suffering a medial meniscus tear in her right knee. She returned to action in May and has gradually regained her form, producing several consistent performances, including a semifinal finish at the Macau Open.
Chaliha will now face China’s Han Qianxi in the final. The Indian shuttler will be aiming to cap her impressive campaign by securing the first BWF World Tour title of her career.
