Lightning strikes amid heavy rainfall claimed the lives of 14 people. On Tuesday, a series of lightning strikes across Giridih, Dumka, and Latehar districts of Jharkhand left at least 14 people dead. Four others were injured in the incidents.
Giridih district was the worst affected. Nine people died in the district. In the Deori area of Khori Mahua subdivision, five youths aged between 18 and 20 were struck by lightning while standing together after finishing a game, and they died on the spot. Three others were injured in the same incident. In two separate incidents in Gawan and Naudiha areas, one person each also lost their life.
In Ramgarh and Hansdiha areas of Dumka district, lightning claimed the lives of three people. Four others, including a child, were injured in these incidents. The injured are undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, in Chandwa and Sadar areas of Latehar district, two separate lightning strikes killed two people. At the same time, a woman was seriously injured and is receiving medical treatment.
Considering the possibility of continued rain and thunderstorms, the local administration has urged people to remain alert. They have specifically advised people to avoid open fields, trees, and open areas. The administration also urged people not to go out unnecessarily until the weather normalizes.
