Self-Proclaimed BJP Leader Creates Ruckus on City Roads; CM Issues Clarification After Arrest

The incident of a youth attacking another by claiming to be a “self-proclaimed BJP leader” on the city roads has sparked intense discussion. After the main accused, Abhilash Dutta, was arrested, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that he has no connection with the BJP.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, the Chief Minister said, “The accused has been arrested. He has no connection with the BJP. There is no place for road hooliganism in Assam. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in such incidents.”

According to the FIR filed at Latasil Police Station, the altercation began after a car overtook Abhilash Dutta’s vehicle in Guwahati. Following this, the self-proclaimed BJP leader allegedly physically assaulted the complainant.

It has also been alleged that after the assault, the complainant was threatened with death to withdraw the FIR.

Along with Abhilash Dutta, police have also named Apurba Sinha from Noonmati and Mrin Talukdar from Chanmari as accused in the case. An FIR has been registered against all three at Latasil Police Station and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, after a video of the incident went widely viral on social media, the matter became a topic of discussion across the state. On the other hand, Abhilash Dutta claimed that the complainant’s vehicle was being driven at excessive speed. The conflict started after that incident.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
