Two Held in Kachugaon with Elephant Tusks; Police Launch Wildlife Trafficking Probe

Two men were apprehended during a late-night operation carried out by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Border) along with the Kachugaon Police Station team, leading to the seizure of two elephant tusks.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Satoan Narzary (30), a resident of Amritpur under Gossaigaon Police Station, and Ripan Basumatary (42), a resident of Kachugaon Bazar under Kachugaon Police Station.

According to police, the two elephant tusks were recovered from the possession of the accused during the operation. During interrogation, Satoan Narzary allegedly stated that he had sold the tusks to Ripan Basumatary for ₹12,000. He further claimed that he had found the tusks in a forest after the natural death of an elephant.

Police are seeking the remand of both accused for further investigation. Officials said their statements will be verified in coordination with the Forest Department to ascertain the authenticity of their claims and determine whether any wildlife laws have been violated.
