Ahead of the Ambubachi Mahayog 2026 at Maa Kamakhya Temple, the district administration has announced revised traffic regulations and special arrangements to ensure smooth movement of devotees and prevent congestion in and around the temple area.
Under the new arrangements, all vehicles will be prohibited from travelling on the route from the Kamakhya foothill towards Maa Kamakhya Temple. However, emergency services such as ambulances, fire tenders, vehicles carrying life-saving medicines, oxygen cylinders and municipal service vehicles will remain exempted from the restrictions. Vehicles transporting water and essential supplies will be allowed to move towards the temple between 11 PM and 5 AM.
Only vehicles carrying authorised car passes issued by the district administration and ferry cars will be permitted to operate from Pandu Temple Ghat to Maa Kamakhya Temple via Bangshibagan. Officials and personnel engaged in festival duties will assemble at Sonaram Higher Secondary School Field and will be transported to their assigned locations through administration-arranged ferry services.
Special drop-off and parking facilities have been arranged for devotees arriving from different directions. Vehicles coming from Jalukbari and Bharalumukh will use designated service lanes near Nilachal Flyover to drop pilgrims before proceeding to authorised parking areas at Adabari Bus Stand and Boripara Field.
Public transport services will also operate under modified guidelines. ASTC buses, city buses and private vehicles will mainly use the Nilachal Flyover, while city buses will only be allowed to drop passengers at specified points and will not be permitted to stop at either end of the flyover.
Devotees travelling by vehicles have been advised to park their two-wheelers, light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles at designated parking zones, including Adabari Bus Stand, Boripara Field, ITA Machkhowa, ASTC Parking Machkhowa and Idgah Field Machkhowa.
The administration has also restricted the movement of commercial goods vehicles and slow-moving vehicles on major city routes, including DG Road, MG Road, AT Road, Pandu Port Road and Borbazar Road, from 5 AM to 11 PM during the festival period.
Inter-district and long-distance buses, including ASTC services, will not be allowed to operate on certain city stretches. Pilgrim buses arriving from Kamakhya Railway Junction will follow a dedicated route to temporary camps at Pandu Port.
Heavy vehicles travelling from NH-27 towards Gosala via Tetelia will also face restrictions. Passengers travelling to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the NH-27 corridor wherever possible.
The entire stretch beneath Nilachal Flyover has been designated as a reserved parking zone. Roadside parking has been prohibited on several routes, including Pandu Port Road, Borbazar Road, DG Road, the Elevated Corridor at Bharalumukh and Nilachal Flyover, to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow.
The administration has appealed to residents, commuters and devotees to cooperate with traffic personnel and strictly follow the notified guidelines for the peaceful and organised conduct of Ambubachi Mahayog 2026.
