Governor Acharya Hails Award-Winning Artistes for Promoting Assam’s Culture

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has congratulated artistes from the state who have been selected for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2024 and 2025. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Governor said that the honours reflect the richness and vibrancy of Assam’s cultural traditions and underline the state’s significant contribution to India’s performing arts.

For the year 2024, Prema Oja Barbayan and Bipul Chandra Das have been selected for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. The awardees for 2025 include Chetana Das, Mallika Kandali and Bhaskar Jyoti Oja.

Among the recipients of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, Minakshi Medhi, Dilip Hira and Bidyut Kumar Nath were selected for 2024. For 2025, the honour will be conferred upon Niranjan Saikia Borbayan, Debajit Saikia and Hirak Jyoti Sarma.

Governor Acharya stated that these awards acknowledge excellence, dedication and outstanding contributions in the field of performing arts. He noted that the recognition not only honours individual achievements but also showcases Assam’s rich artistic legacy at the national level.

Expressing his best wishes to all the awardees, the Governor said he hopes their accomplishments will inspire younger generations to preserve, promote and carry forward the state’s unique cultural heritage. According to an official press release, the recognition is being viewed as a proud moment for Assam’s artistic and cultural community.
