With the goal of providing a simple and distinct identity for Indian products in the global market, the central government is preparing to launch a “Made in India” brand policy. This was revealed by Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), during his address at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual summit Secretary Singh stated that discussions regarding the “Made in India” brand policy have reached an advanced stage. The government is quite encouraged by the progress made so far. Global Recognition The initiative aims to help international consumers easily identify high-quality Indian goods. “We are now at a point where we can begin more detailed discussions on the nature of this brand with various stakeholders,” he added. Economic Impact At the same event, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal mentioned that while the trade policy is complementary to the industrial policy, there is a need to adopt a holistic approach to aid economic development.
Reducing Import Dependency:
The discussion also highlighted the necessity of reducing dependence on imports. To decrease the reliance on foreign goods, the government had previously identified nearly 100 key items for domestic production. Secretary Barthwal noted that the government has already achieved success in several sectors, such as mobile phones and automobiles, where technology and quality gaps have been bridged, and products are now being manufactured locally within India.
