The launch of Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM) by the Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) highlights the increasing shift in India’s higher education sector towards industry-integrated and technology-focused learning models aimed at supporting the country’s expanding knowledge economy. The deemed-to-be university, launched in partnership with the University at Albany, will begin academic operations in August 2026 with programmes centred on artificial intelligence, aerospace engineering and management studies. Analysts believe the move aligns with rising industry demand for skilled professionals in advanced technologies, automation and innovation-driven sectors.
RISM plans to offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, including B.Tech courses in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering and Electrical Sciences, along with BBA and MBA programmes. The institution said its curriculum has been developed with industry and academic partners to strengthen employability through internships, live projects, translational research and industry-sponsored Centres of Excellence.
The university’s decision to establish its main residential campus near Bengaluru’s Information Technology Investment Region in Devanahalli places it close to aerospace clusters, special economic zones and the upcoming Foxconn facility, potentially strengthening industry-academia collaboration and regional innovation ecosystems.
Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) said the university would also introduce a “Professors of Practice” model, integrating senior industry professionals into academic departments to bridge the gap between academic learning and evolving market requirements.
