The website of Gauhati University’s Krishna Kanta Handique Library was briefly compromised on Monday morning, with officials confirming a 10 to 15-minute breach. The library’s login system was allegedly targeted by hackers.
During the hack, the login page displayed pro-Pakistan slogans like “Dudh mangoge to kheer denge, Kashmir mangoge to cheer denge” and “Pakistan Zindabad.” Librarian Prashant Kumar Deka said the issue was detected early and quickly addressed. “The remote login system was hacked, but access has been fully restored. Students need not worry,” he reassured.
Initial login problems were noticed late Sunday, prompting the university to contact the Ahmedabad-based Indian Access Management Federation for assistance. Though the technical problem has been resolved, the incident has sparked concern among students.
Student union member Utpal Kalita questioned the intent behind the attack and announced plans to submit a memorandum demanding an investigation. He emphasized the library’s importance to scholars and called on university authorities and cybersecurity agencies to act swiftly.
