In the village of Sadhubhasha Part I, West Bilasipara, Dhubri, relentless riverbank erosion by the Tipkai River has wrought devastating consequences on the local community. Amid continuous heavy rainfall, the rising river has eroded several homes, including those built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), leaving many economically disadvantaged families homeless.
The persistent downpours have caused the Tipkai River to swell, exacerbating the erosion in the char area and putting the impoverished residents in a dire situation. In the Athani revenue circle of Dhubri district, 27 families living below the poverty line have fallen victim to the river’s aggressive encroachment.
Revenue Circle Officer Nazrul Islam of the Athani Revenue Circle Office has taken prompt action, instructing Lat Mandal Nazrul Islam to gather detailed data on the families’ losses due to the erosion.
