The Assam government provides funds for Durga Puja celebrations

On October 8, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma remarked that the state is committed to supporting community Durga Pujas and emphasized the value of cultural heritage at a recent event. Speaking on October 8, Sarma stated, “We are dedicated to assisting community Durga Pujas in their efforts to advance our Sanatan Sanskriti. I trust that our small gift will make it easy to serve Maa Durga.”

This comment followed Assam BJP MLA Manab Deka’s statements on October 7, when he emphasized the government’s support for Durga Puja celebration committees in the Lakhimpur Assembly constituency. Deka mentioned the presence of local Puja Committee members as well as Lakhimpur District Commissioner Lachit Kumar Das at the announcement ceremony. In order to improve the festivities, the Assam government previously planned to distribute grants of Rs 10,000 to Puja pandals for Durga Puja celebrations in 2023. This program seeks to increase community involvement and ensure a vibrant celebration of the festival that reflects Assam’s rich cultural legacy.
