SMFG India Credit sets Guinness World Record for largestcattlewelfarelesson

SMFG India Credit has secured a Guinness World Record for the Largest Cattle Welfare Lesson (Multiple Venues) with 517 participants across six locations. This achievement was part of the company’s 7th edition of Pashu Vikas Day (PVD), the country’s largest one-day cattle care initiative, held simultaneously in 500 locations across 16 states, benefiting 1,50,000 cattle and 40,000 cattle owners.

With 65-70% of India’s rural population reliant on agriculture and livestock, SMFG India Credit organized PVD under the theme “MeraPashuMeraParivar”, highlighting the role of cattle in financial stability. More than 6,000 employees participated, reinforcing the company’s commitment to rural welfare.

In Assam’s Dibrugarh, cattle rearing is a major source of livelihood. The specialized lessons from PVD are expected to boost productivity and financial security for local farmers. Enhanced livestock care could drive higher milk production and dairy sector growth, creating new opportunities for financial services in the region. Shantanu Mitra, CEO & MD of SMFG India Credit, reaffirmed the company’s expansion in Tier-2+ regions, with 90% of its 1,000+ branches focused on these areas. COO Swaminathan Subramanian called the record a “defining moment”, underscoring SMFG’s mission to empower rural communities.
