Silchar’s Meitei community holds candlelight vigil, demands justice for Manipur victims

The Meitei Manipuri community in Assam’s Cachar district staged a poignant candlelight vigil on Sunday evening to mourn the tragic killing of six women and children in Manipur by suspected militants.

Gathering at the Khudiram Bose statue in Silchar, the protesters expressed profound grief while calling for justice. The vigil served as a platform to honor the victims and amplify demands for swift action from the Central government.

Addressing the media, community members voiced concerns over the escalating insecurity in Manipur’s border areas amid persistent violence and militant attacks. They urged immediate intervention to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities.

In a symbolic gesture of defiance, the protesters declared their decision to withhold the final rites of the deceased until justice is served. The gathering underscored the urgent need for accountability and efforts to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
