Illegal tea cultivation on government land destroyed on orders of High Court in Siliguri

Siliguri, 3rd July . Following the order of the High Court, tea plantations planted illegally on Forest Department land in Siliguri have been destroyed.

Reports show that a person was doing business by planting a tea garden on several bighas of government land in Farbari Nepali Basti area under Dabgram-Phulbari. Despite the man’s claims of ownership, the forest department had earlier directed him to remove the tea plantation, but he did not comply.

The case was taken to the High Court and after a long legal battle the court ordered the release of the land. On Wednesday, as per the court’s direction, a large contingent of police and forest officials supervised the destruction of the entire tea garden.
