Oil prices declined as market focus shifted to Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday, amid growing U.S. pressure on Kyiv to agree to a peace deal with Russia that may involve surrendering territory. Brent crude dropped below $66 per barrel after a 1.5% dip in the previous session, while West Texas Intermediate fell under $63. European leaders including Ursula von der Leyen, Emmanuel Macron, and NATO’s Mark Rutte are expected to attend the high-profile meeting in Washington as a sign of support. Following a recent meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Trump said he would urge Zelenskiy to agree to a quick deal and appeared open to Russia’s demands for land concessions. Although Trump previously threatened strong measures against Russia and nations buying its oil, he has yet to act. India has been hit with steep tariffs for purchasing Russian crude, while China was spared due to its oil imports. Meanwhile, oil futures remain volatile amid oversupply and trade policy concerns.
