Jadeja’s out-debate is going on, what are the ICC rules?

Chasing 141 runs, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets. A win in this match keeps them in the race for the playoffs. Even if Rajasthan loses, they can go to the playoffs. But they are still waiting for a win. But there was an incident in Sunday’s match that is now at the center of discussion. That is Ravindra Jadeja out.

The Chennai all-rounder was not bowled, caught, run out, or LBW in today’s match. Even so, the umpire gave him out! How is this possible? In fact, Jadeja was out under the ‘obstructing the field’ rule. He got out in the 16th over of the second inning of the match. The field umpire takes the help of the third umpire in giving this out. He dismissed Jadeja.

If the batter knowingly obstructs the fielding or guards the wicket at the time of the fielder’s delivery, it is called ‘obstructing the field’. Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed in the Rajasthan match. 15.5 overs into the Chennai bat, Abesh Khan’s off-stump ball goes to the third man. Jadeja starts to run for two runs but is stopped by Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top edge. He sent back Jadeja.

This time, Rajasthan wicketkeeper Jadeja threw the ball towards the wicket after getting the ball thrown by the fielder. Jadeja observed which way the ball was coming. As such, he tries to run by hiding the stumps to avoid being run out. The throw goes to Jadeja. Immediately, Rajasthan applied for the third umpire’s call. Jadeja got out under the ‘obstructing the field’ rule.
