Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Ishan Kishan as interim captain for the initial part of IPL 2026, with Abhishek Sharma as his deputy. The decision comes after Pat Cummins was sidelined with a lower back stress injury, which has kept him out of action for a significant part of the Ashes series and T20 World Cup.
Kishan, who has been in top form, will lead SRH until Cummins recovers. The left-handed batter had a standout performance in the T20 World Cup and recently captained Jharkhand to their first Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy title.
Abhishek Sharma, who is currently ranked No.1 in ICC T20I batters, will serve as Kishan’s deputy. SRH has not disclosed the exact number of matches Cummins will miss.
