In a vehicle accident on the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia Bypass four family members including a 7-year-old perished

On the intervening night of Tuesday, a four-wheeler that a family was riding on went into a wayside water body on the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia bypass, killing four of them, including a toddler. The van also included a mother and a little daughter who were injured and are receiving medical attention. The victims include Artha Gupta and Rajesh Gupta from Bihar, and Mohan Shah and Montu Shah from Bordubi, Assam. For autopsies, the bodies have been sent to Tinsukia Civil Hospital.

In preparation for Mohan’s daughter’s November 16 wedding, the Bihar family had traveled to Assam. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police investigations, the vehicle struck a building next to a pool at Panitola before swerving off the road and into a ditch filled with water. A family member claims that on Tuesday evening, the Bihar relatives arrived at the Dibrugarh train station. They had been on their way to Bordubi when the accident happened, and Mohan and his son Montu had gone to pick them up. The family member informed The Assam Tribune,

“My older brother, brother-in-law, and two nephews, including seven-year-old Artha, passed away instantaneously.” He said, “We are unsure if appropriate safety precautions were put in place in the area around the pool.” Potholes from ongoing bypass road building have caused many accidents at this location, according to residents. They pointed out that although a culvert was put in place at the location, the accidents seem to be caused by unfinished work surrounding it.
