The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has secured a notable achievement on the global academic stage by clinching the 344th position in the QS World University Rankings 2025. Boasting an impressive overall score of 32.9, IIT Guwahati’s ascent marks a remarkable leap of 20 places from its position in the previous year, showcasing significant progress and recognition in the international academic community.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, expressed his gratification with the institute’s performance, attributing this success to the unwavering dedication and diligence of its faculty, students, and staff. “Our steadfast commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation continues to propel us forward,” remarked Prof. Jalihal. “We take pride in this achievement and remain steadfast in our pursuit of enhancing our global stature and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and technology.” He also underscored the imperative of addressing challenges related to internationalization to further bolster Indian institutes’ global rankings.
The release of the QS World University Rankings 2025 on June 4, 2024, underscored IIT Guwahati’s remarkable trajectory over the years. Since 2014, the institute has made significant strides, surging an impressive 257 places from the 601-650 range to its current position at 344th. Notably, IIT Guwahati excels in Research Citations per Faculty, ranking 42nd globally. Additionally, it secures the 295th position in Employer Reputation and the 480th spot in Academic Reputation.
Established in 2004, the QS World University Rankings serve as a pivotal benchmark for evaluating academic institutions worldwide. The rankings consider a multitude of parameters, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty-Student Ratio, Citations per Faculty, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, Employment Outcome, International Research Network, and Sustainability.
