Huge protests after Bengal girl’s body found in canal

The body of an 11-year-old girl who had gone missing since Friday night was discovered in a canal. The girl’s family and villagers allege that she was raped before her body was thrown into the canal. Massive demonstrations erupted in the district following the discovery of the girl’s body. According to accounts, the girl went missing while going home from her tuition classes. Her family, deeply concerned, went to the local police station to register a complaint. However, they claim that instead of obtaining assistance, they were harassed by the police. When the girl’s body was discovered this morning, locals gathered in great numbers to show their outrage.

They accused the police of neglecting to take prompt action, which they feel led to the tragic result. Several videos have surfaced online, showing a group of villagers, largely women, organizing rallies on the streets with sticks and demanding punishment against the guilty. Another video shows citizens surrounding and threatening officials after police failed to file a report on time.
