Guwahati Issues Deepawali Advisory: Green Crackers, Safety Tips, and Noise Control

The Guwahati Police Commissionerate has issued an advisory on Deepawali celebrations, focusing on the use of “Green Crackers” and strict safety measures to reduce pollution during the festive period. The green crackers emit lesser toxins, no barium, and have safety decibel levels certified by the CSIR/National Environmental Engineering Research Institute at 110-125 dB. Fireworks use is restricted to the time between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM on Deepawali night to minimize noise and air pollution.

Safety tips include storing fireworks in safe places, supervising children around fireworks, and maintaining a four-meter distance from ignition points. The authorities have highlighted several activities to be avoided, such as lighting fireworks outdoors, not bursting crackers near electric poles, wires, or structures, and prohibiting fireworks in “Silence Zones” like hospitals and schools. The police commissionerate appeals to citizens to celebrate Deepawali in a safe and environment-friendly manner.
