Gaurav Gogoi tears into Assam CM: ‘Script he follows is worse than a B-grade film’

The political rivalry between Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intensified on Sunday, May 18, after explosive allegations and scathing rebuttals lit up social media, turning the political arena into a battleground of sharp accusations and personal attacks. The latest flare-up in the ongoing feud came after CM Sarma made a sensational claim alleging that Gogoi had visited Pakistan at the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), not as part of any official engagement but under questionable circumstances allegedly arranged by Pakistan’s Home Department. “He went there to receive training,” Sarma alleged during a public address, insisting that the visit was not under the knowledge of India’s Ministry of External Affairs. “This is a matter of national security, not diplomacy,” he asserted, adding that the state government holds documents related to the matter and is prepared to act depending on further investigations.

In a separate and equally serious charge, Sarma also accused Gogoi’s spouse of having received payments over two years from a Pakistan-based NGO, which he claimed was linked to ISI activities. However, no documentation or official records have yet been released in the public domain to support these allegations. Reacting strongly to the CM’s statements, Gaurav Gogoi launched a fierce counterattack through a series of posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He called the Chief Minister’s accusations “absurd” and “bordering on insanity,” and said he was genuinely concerned for Sarma’s mental health. “I am worried about the health of the Chief Minister of Assam,” Gogoi posted. “For reasons best known to him, I’ve been on his radar since the beginning of my political journey. This obsession has gone on for over 13 years.”

Gogoi said, “The script that the Chief Minister is following is worse than a B-grade film.” He added that Sarma’s tactics resemble those of social media trolls and accused him of recycling lies without offering any proof. “A Chief Minister should not behave like an IT cell troll,” Gogoi wrote. “If he truly has evidence, he must make it public.”Gogoi also referenced past controversies, including the “body double” episode during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, to highlight what he called the CM’s repeated attempts to distract from pressing state issues. “While he plays politics with conspiracy theories, we remain focused on Assam’s real problems — economic hardship and the unchecked coal and drug mafia operating under political protection,” he said.
