Dense fog disrupts Guwahati airport: 14 flights cancelled, 30 delayed

Flight operations at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati were severely impacted on January 3 due to dense fog, resulting in 14 flight cancellations and delays for over 30 others. The airport faced reduced visibility throughout the day, causing significant inconvenience to passengers. Airport officials confirmed that operations were disrupted, and efforts were made to assist affected travelers.”The total operation was disrupted. Due to this, 14 flights were cancelled, and more than 30 were delayed,” airport authorities said in a statement.

To address the situation, additional airport personnel were deployed to assist passengers. Provisions such as extra seating and water were made available at the terminal to ensure passenger comfort.“We are committed to ensuring passenger safety and comfort. We request all passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated schedules before heading to the airport,” the statement added. The weather conditions in Guwahati mirrored challenges faced at other major airports in northern India. On the same day, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory warning that flights not equipped with CAT III technology could be delayed or affected.

“While landing and take-offs continue at Delhi airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected,” the Delhi Airport Authority stated on social media, urging passengers to check with airlines for real-time updates.
