Copper Theft Cripples Healthcare Services At Sribhumi Civil Hospital

A troubling series of thefts targeting vital infrastructure has severely disrupted medical services at Sribhumi Civil Hospital. Thieves have repeatedly stolen copper wire bundles from the outdoor units of air conditioners, causing nearly ten AC units across various departments to stop working.

Hospital sources reveal that the lack of functioning air conditioning has badly affected key diagnostic areas like the Sonography and X-Ray departments, which have been operating in extreme heat for a long time. This has even damaged three crucial software systems in the sonography machine, adding to patient and staff distress.

Despite complaints filed at Sadar Police Station, no arrests have been made. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Lipi Deb confirmed the recurring thefts and the non-functional AC units, stating that FIRs have been registered but the perpetrators remain free.

Staff from affected units expressed frustration over poor working conditions and diagnostic delays. Public criticism has also mounted due to the district administration’s silence, raising concerns of a potential healthcare crisis if the issue remains unresolved.
